Our Accommodation

All Mews flats are generously sized and thoughtfully designed, featuring a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, a guest bedroom, an additional bathroom, and an open-plan sitting and dining area with a fully equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher. Storage is optimised with ample built-in cupboards, while multiple strategically placed windows allow plenty of natural light to fill each flat.

The four ground-floor flats feature French doors opening onto private terrace gardens, while the first-floor flats, accessible via both a lift and an easy-rise staircase, include French doors leading to Juliet balconies, taking full advantage of the stunning views.

The support available at Birtley Mews ensures retirement can be truly carefree, allowing residents to spend time doing what they enjoy rather than what they must. Over time, living in a Mews flat can be more cost-effective than maintaining a private home, with the added benefit of more personal time to enjoy. The grounds surrounding Birtley House offer a serene and picturesque setting for both the Nursing Home and the Mews. Our eight acres of formal gardens feature easy-access pathways, allowing less mobile Residents to enjoy much of the landscape. We also have an ongoing programme to introduce additional paths, further enhancing accessibility.

Scattered throughout the gardens are many peaceful spots, ideal for resting, spending time with family, or simply sitting quietly to enjoy the wildlife and ever-changing blooms.

The garden itself is divided into a series of enchanting ‘rooms’, including the Secret Garden, the Rose Garden, the Apple Orchard, and the Long Walk. Each year, the flower beds along the Long Walk burst into vibrant colour, while the opposite side offers a tranquil pond with ducks, moorhens, and a gentle water feature.

Across the front lawn and parkland stands a remarkable 500 year old oak tree, along with a variety of other beautiful specimens such as cherry blossom and wisteria. Continuing through the grounds, you will reach the lake, framed by a graceful weeping willow and offering clear views toward the woodland.

Our award-winning Kitchen Garden also provides an abundance of home-grown produce, enjoyed by residents throughout the year.

Meals and Dining

Providing high-quality ingredients is key to ensuring our residents receive the nutrition they need. Our dedicated catering team prepares meals using fresh, seasonal produce, much of which is sourced directly from our own kitchen garden, and supplemented with select ingredients from trusted local suppliers to maintain exceptional quality, flavour, and variety.

Birtley Mews flats are available for permanent, full-time residence, and therefore trial stays are not offered in these properties. However, if you would like to experience Birtley House, its care services, and the surrounding grounds before committing, we provide rehab and respite care in our nursing care rooms. Alternatively, you can arrange a guided tour to explore the grounds and speak with our friendly care team to learn more.
