‘I felt awful when I arrived but the pot of flowers from the garden on my windowsill really lifted my spirits and made me feel welcome. Throughout my stay I was treated with care and kindness by all the staff. After the first few days it really helped when several people said ‘oh you’re looking better’ I appreciated the involvement of all the family. From the initial greeting by Frank to the final good wishes from Caroline.’
SN (Respite Resident)
‘Dad loved the grounds of Birtley House and the view from his room. He especially loved the visit of the duck soon after his arrival.’

‘I received kindness, care throughout my stay of a period of 2 months. Every member of staff was aware of my needs and assisted me whenever I called upon them. Cleanliness was very high. Food was very well presented.’

‘My mother received excellent care throughout her 9 week stay at Birtley. The staff were caring, helpful and friendly to the max. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.’

‘My reason for a 3-week stay was to recover from hospital attention for type 2 diabetes. Following 3 week stay, I have recovered from physical weakness and received complete instruction for my diet, exercise and timing of any medication, balanced with daily food intake.’
WM (Respite Resident)
‘A very kind, compassionate, gentle approach to our whole family. My mother received very good care by engaged professional staff. Beautiful home, stunning grounds, very very personal attention.’
KS (Daughter of Resident)
‘I needed respite care after having broken my hip and spending two weeks in hospital. The medical/nursing care was excellent. Physiotherapy is excellent with sessions as required. Care support very good – nothing too much trouble.’
HM (Respite Resident)
‘My mother has stayed here several times for periods lasting two weeks and sometimes longer. This gives her family and her a bit of a break and she enjoys the change of scene. She particularly likes the beautiful gardens.’
CB (Daughter of Resident)
‘My heartfelt thanks for all you arranged for those of us who were here on Christmas Day. It was for me a happy time from dawn until dusk and a privilege to be with you and all your family members, big and small. Coming myself from a large family it made me feel part of yours and welcomed into your home.’
