Last year we found ourselves with the opportunity to take part in a first edition regional production of ‘The Surrey Cook Book’. Unusual for a care home, but as Birtley House has been a long standing business in Surrey, we were able to supply an historical family recipe.
The recipe chosen was one from Birtley House owner Simon Whalley’s mothers cook book, and has been a much enjoyed family favourite over the years.
Last week our Residents enjoyed the chosen recipe ‘Game Pie’ which was prepared and cooked in house by our Chefs. They also created a honey inspired desert to follow the pie, which was made using Birtley Estate honey, produced by our onsite beekeepers.
The lunch went down a treat, and now the Cook Book is available to purchase either on its own, or in a bundle with some of our honey from our reception team as of Monday 14th December.
As we step into 2021, we will continue to reproduce some of the recipes within the book and create a theme around them for our Residents to enjoy. We hope to invite family members to some of these occasions too.
