Lunch down the Amsterdam Canal

Whilst we still can’t quite believe what is going on in the world right now, we are still adapting quickly and effectively. Followed by not being able to see loved ones, a real change that our Residents have experienced is the activities department.

Activities are important for the mind, body and soul. We pride ourselves on keeping them varied. They are also very inviting so that new Residents feel comfortable settling in. At the moment, our Residents cannot benefit from the usual social occasions. So we have had to get more creative, and we’re trying out new ways of bringing experiences to them.

Earlier this week, two ladies were invited down for a special surprise lunch in the activities room. As they arrived they found the table set up (social distancing rules adhered to), and on the large screen was a real treat. A virtual boat tour down the Amsterdam Canal! At the same time, we had other residents in our main dining room, on a private lunch date.

All of the ladies were thrilled, and so pleased that our activities team could arrange something that was so kind and thoughtful. Quiet as it was without the usual gatherings, their faces were a picture and they had a ball. Something that we will continue with other Residents of Birtley House.
