We reveal the winners of our staff photography competition

Birtley House Nursing Home photography winners

Staff at Birtley House Nursing Home in Bramley entered a spring photography competition in their droves before three worthy winners were selected by Birtley House residents

The staff photography competition at Birtley House is always a popular event. And with such beautiful grounds surrounding the home, it’s no surprise!

With many team members exploring the grounds at Birtley House during their lunch or tea breaks, staff often witness special moments.

The lake, woodland, and extensive gardens at our Surrey Hills Nursing Home are teeming with flora and fauna. This provides plenty of material for the budding photographer.

And this year’s competition did not disappoint. Many photographs were entered into the competition with the subject matter ranging from animals and flowers to pathways and produce!

Selecting the winners

The winning photographs were selected by a panel of male and female residents at Birtley House.

But the task of selecting three images wasn’t easy with so many beautiful photographs to choose from. But the judges agreed on their three winning favourites.

The presentation for the photography competition took place in the activities room at Birtley House.

Staff and judges gathered to watch an excellent slideshow compiled by Registered Manager, Sylwia Indycka. Entries were showcased to the soundtrack of emotive and spring-like music.

And there were gasps of delight as the slideshow was revealed – especially when photographs of wildlife were revealed.

The three winning photographs were revealed to rounds of applause. And each winner was presented with a framed print of their photograph.

The winning photograph was taken by Liz Tilley, the chaplain at Birtley House Nursing Home. Her wonderful photograph of two swans reflected on the Birtley lake won the hearts of the judges.

Birtley board member, Caroline Whalley, took second place with her image of a mother duck being followed by a large brood of ducklings!

Care Delivery Co-ordinator Julie Eagleton won third place with her image of a handsome pheasant. Julie was on annual leave when the presentation took place and was not present to take her prize.

The winning shots

All three winning shots depicted our birdlife at Birtley House – a feature of the home that many of our residents enjoy all year round.
