Christmas 2021 at Birtley

Santa Visits Birtley House 2021

It goes without saying that this time of year is always very special for us all at Birtley House and we do all we can to make it a truly magical time for our residents too. With the weeks leading up to the big day, the calendar is full of fun and games and our activities team do their best to encourage one and all to join in on the festive fun!

We do however want to reassure you that despite the ongoing and challenging unprecedented situation that is COVID-19, we take all precautions outlined by the government and ensure that the residents here at Birtley are very much safe, happy and most definitely in the Christmas Spirit!

It’s all about Traditions!

As part of our yearly tradition, Christmas trees have been strategically placed around the home with the biggest and of course, most glamourous in the hallway for all to see ? Talking of traditions, each year we create Christingles to light at the annual Christingle service. Christingle, from a word of German origin, Christkindl, meaning “Little Christ Child”, is used to celebrate Jesus Christ as the “Light of the World.” Revd Liz led a very poignant service at the beginning of the month with the homemade Christingles taking pride of place. They certainly provided a very effective spectacle when lit up and the ceiling lights in the Activities room were dimmed.

Our Residents get Crafty

We certainly don’t need to persuade any of you when we say that we have a few crafty professionals here at the home in Bramley, Surrey. Over the last few weeks, there has been many an opportunity where our residents have been ‘getting crafty’ and our residents certainly don’t need any encouragement. These beautiful decorations as seen below have been adorning the residents’ doors and this stunning depiction of the Three Wise Kings currently takes pride of place on the feature wall. The creativity has continued as our Head of Activities, Tina has held workshops with the residents creating mini trees and window decorations. The activities room now looks like a Christmas magical space. We love it and so do the residents!

Elf on the Shelf arrives at Birtley House

Well, what can we say?! Birtley’s little elf has been causing some mayhem and mischief these past few weeks and what fun it has been! He has been spotted in some comical places…playing the ukulele in the admin office, taking it easy on the sofa in the main hall and what’s more, he was also taking a swing on the chandelier! Where is he going to be next?

Cinders shall make it to the bell…oh no she won’t!

It is that time of year again, panto season! We held our very own show of Cinderella and it did not disappoint. With our own superstar cast, our residents were entertained by an evening of musical numbers and award-winning acting ? but the question is, did Cinders make it to the ball, I guess you will have to ask our residents!

Birtley House wishes you a very Happy Christmas

We hope that we have given you a little insight into our activities here over the festive weeks leading up to Christmas Day, and you can be sure that we have lots of Christmassy activities and fun planned for the big day this weekend. Our team here at Birtley like nothing more than giving our residents a day to remember and that is exactly what we hope to do this year!
