You are in safe hands with Birtley House

Staff sitting at table throughout Safeguarding Training

As part of our yearly mandatory refresher training here at Birtley Nursing Home in Surrey, we undertake Safeguarding Awareness training and associated workshops. Birtley House value training and development of their staff very highly. Throughout last month our Care Home Manager, Sylwia led educational workshops for all staff and residents. Safeguarding Awareness is a very important topic in Social Care and it is imperative that all health and social care workers in the industry understand the sheer importance it holds.

The Birtley House team members discuss Safeguarding Training aspects.

We are always looking to include our residents as much as we can in our activities and so of course, we chose to invite the residents to the safeguarding sessions. We hadn’t heard of other care homes conducting their safeguarding in this way before but we felt it was such a great form of engagement for our residents as well as educating them on key topics for their living environment.

What does the Safeguarding sessions consist of?

At Birtley, we try and keep our training varied yet enjoyable for all our staff. It is important that our sessions are informative in nature and thought provoking and above all, knowledgeable. The courses were engaging, delivered via group case study discussions with contributions and participation from all.

Say cheese! Sylwia and one of our residents taking part in one of the Safeguarding related word search activities.

To mix up the content of the workshops; quizzes, word searches and a visual presentation was used to raise awareness. Sylwia, our Registered Care Manager incorporated word games for the residents which they found most enjoyable. The residents found the afternoon very informative and those that attended were very knowledgeable. Sylwia was inspired and grateful for their engagement and interactions, making the workshop that much more worthwhile.

Sylwia, spoke proudly about her experience of taking the training below:

‘Everyone’s energy, involvement and contribution in the interactive discussions makes my effort easier and I hope meaningful for all of you too.’

Striving to be the best in care for now and our futures

Training and Continual Professional Development (CPD) is fundamental to our staff progress and career growth. However, most of all it contributes to our core values of Integrity, Kindness, Positivity and Adaptability. These are evident in every area of our business from our passionate care assistants to our creative kitchen team.

Birtley House is always striving to be the best in all that matters in care and most of all ensure we meet the CQC standards and commissioners in future inspections and reflect their outstanding ratings. We are proud to say that all staff that participated received a ‘Level 2 Safeguarding Adults at Risk’ certificate.

And our Director, Tim Whalley had some great feedback from the course:

‘Well done everyone! This has definitely been a very beneficial course for us all, thank you to Sylwia for expert and professional delivery’.
